This plan
was prepared in response to this request
i
2.0 PROPOSED INVESTIGATION
2.1 Information Generated for Risk Based Corrective Action Evaluation
In light of the changes occurring in the regulatory requirements for engineered
cleanups and the move towards rapid closure of sites that pose a low risk to human
health and the environment, Geological Technics Inc recommends that several
issues be addressed to provide valuable data to SJCPHS/EHD for the purpose of
determining if this site meets the criteria for a low risk site These tasks include, but
may not be limited to the following-
0 Perform a well survey to locate domestic wells within a 500 foot radius and
review the site and adjacent properties for potential human and environmental
receptors that may be impacted by these chemicals
o Perform monthly groundwater level measurements to determine predominant
direction of flow
I o Perform quarterly groundwater monitoring for a minimum period of 1 year to
determine if the plume is in a growth mode, stable, or decline mode
a Review the sales records of the petroleum distributor to determine if the fuel
delivered to this station may have contained the additive MTBE. If it is
suspected, then perform lab testing for this chemical
2.2 Monitoring Well Installation
To further investigate the lateral and vertical extent of gasoline and kerosene range
' petroleum hydrocarbons in the soil and groundwater environments, Geological
Technics Inc proposes to install three additional shallow groundwater monitoring
wells surrounding the known plume area and one discretely screened deeper
monitoring well (Figure 2 Site Map)
Based on the May 3, 1995 groundwater gradient calculation the groundwater
exhibits a predominately north direction of flow The well borings will be drilled
. using an 8 00 inch outside diameter continuous flight hollow stem auger owned and
I
