29 September 2003
AGE-NC Project No. 01-0865
Page 2 of 10
Each of these tasks is described in greater detail below.
3.1. PRE-FIELD WORK PREPARATIONS
A site assessment boring permit will be obtained from the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department (EHD) for all on- and off-site boring locations and encroachment permit(s) will be
obtained from the County Public Works Department. A health and safety plan will be updated in
accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site
Activities(National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Administration,U.S. Coast Guard
and U.S.Environmental Protection Agency, 1985).Prior to mobilization,the area of excavation will
be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. CONE PENETROMETER TEST (CPT)
AGE proposes to advance four paired CPT soil borings at the site (Figure 2) as part of site
assessment activities to characterize lithology, potential contaminant migration pathways and to
assess the vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted ground water.
3.2.1. CPT Boring Locations
The proposed boring locations are:
• Adjacent to ground water monitoring well MW-6,to further delineate vertical ground water
contamination directly down gradient of the former USTs;
• Between 10 and 15 feet south of ground water monitoring well MW-5, to further delineate
vertical ground water contamination north of MW-6;
• Between 45 and 50 feet east of ground water monitoring well MW-1, to further delineate
vertical ground water contamination at the former UST locations; and
• Between 55 and 60 feet south of ground water monitoring well MW-6, to delineate vertical
ground water contamination at the southern portion of the property.
The CPT borings shall be advanced to approximately 100 feet bsg(120 feet bsg for the CPT on the
levee) utilizing a 25-ton truck-mounted CPT drill rig equipped with 2-inch diameter hollow-stem
rods; however, total depth of the boring may vary according to geologic conditions and field
evidence of impacted media encountered during boring advancement.
Adv eed GeoEnvironmental,Inc
