29 September 2003
AGE-NC Project No. 01-0865
• CPT Borings 3 - 4 days
• Well Installation and Abandonment 1 week
• Analytical Data 1 - 2 weeks (following each segment)
• Report Preparation: 4- 6 weeks (after receipt of all data)
5.0. FIELD PROCEDURES
All field procedures will be overseen by an AGE representative under the supervision of a California
Registered Geologist. Procedures for the advancement of CPT borings, well abandonment,
monitoring well pilot borings, soil sampling, monitoring well completion, ground water sampling,
sample shipment and equipment decontamination are outlined below.
5.1. CPT ADVANCEMENT
Each CPT soil boring will be advanced to a depth of approximately 100 feet bsg(120 feet bsg for
the CPT on the levee)utilizing a 25-ton truck-mounted CPT drill rig equipped with 2-inch diameter
hollow-stem rods.At each CPT location, the first soil boring will utilize a hydraulic ram to advance
a piezocone to the desired depth. Soil parameters such as cone bearing, sleeve friction, friction ratio
and pore water pressure will be measured as the piezocone is advanced. The data will be utilized to
obtain a computer-generated interpretation ofthe penetrated soil lithology.Rinseate generated during
drilling activities will be containerized in properly labeled DOT-approved 55-gallon drums, and
stored on-site in an area lacking public access.Disposal alternatives will be evaluated at a later date
based on laboratory results of rinseate.
5.2. CPT GROUND WATER SAMPLING
A second, or paired, soil boring will be located adjacent to the first CPT boring for ground water
sample collection.Based on CPT findings, discrete grabground water samples will be collected in
significant intervals of porous and permeable strata.A HydroPunch sample tool will be pushed into
the specified zone, then withdrawn approximately three feet to expose an inlet screen. The interior
of the sampling tool fills with water and a 1-inch outer diameter(O.D.) stainless steel bailer will be
lowered and utilized to extract a ground water sample. Grab ground water samples will be collected
in selected intervals of porous and permeable material. All rinseate generated during drilling will be
containerized in properly labeled DOT-approved 55-gallon drums, and stored on-site in an area
lacking public access.
Advanced CcoEnvironmental,Inc
