' Report-Soil and Groundwater Investigation
Herman&Helen's Marina
September 30, 1996
' Page 7
3.5.1 Analytical Results - Soil
' Five (5) soil samples (1 sample per borehole) were retained for chemical analysis. Each
sample was labeled according to the project number, the borehole number, and the depth at which the
' sample was collected.
' The laboratory analyses indicate concentrations of TPH-G, BTEX, and MTBE in the soil
sample collected from GP-4 at 5 feet bgs. A lower concentration of MTBE was detected in the
' sample collected from GP-3 at 10 feet bgs. TEPH (motor oil) was detected in GP-2, GP-3, and GP-
4, at concentrations ranging from 39 to 55 mg/kg, however, the laboratory indicated that the organics
' detected during the analysis were within the motor oil range but did not match the motor oil pattern.
The organics detected in the TEPH analysis may be associated with the high organic (peat) content
in the soil. The results of the soil analyses are shown in Table 1, below. Laboratory report sheets
indicating analytical methods used, detection limits, and results of analyses are located in Appendix C.
' TABLE 1
Chemical Analyses (Soil - August 1996)
' B T E X MTBE TPH-G TEPH
Detection 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 1.0 1.0-10
' Sample LD.Limits: jig/kg pg/kg gg/kg g9/kg gg/kg mg/kg mg/kg
1432-GPI-9 ND ND ND ND ND ND ND
1432-GP2-11 ND ND ND ND ND ND 45 (motor oil range?)
' 1432-GP-3-10 ND ND ND ND 14 ND 39 (motor oil range?)
.1432-GP4-5 920 1,500 ND(100) ND(100) 14.000 28 55 (motor oil range?)
1432-GP5-13 ND ND ND ND ND ND ND
Unit Conversions:
gg/kg:parts per billion(ppb) B,T,E,X =benzene,toluene, ethyl benzene,and total xylenes.
mg/kg:parts per million(ppm) MTBE=methyl tertiary bury] ether
TPH-G=total petroleum hydrocarbons, quantified as gasoline.
' TEPH =total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons, quantified as diesel,
motor oil,and kerosene.
ND=none detected at or above laboratory detection limits.
(100)=detection limits raised due to gasoline interference.
' (motor oil range?)=organics detected within the motor oil range, however do not match the
motor oil pattern.
CONDOR
