Response (OERR) Directive 9345.3-02 (May 1991), which provides the guidance for the
management of IDW. In addition, other legal and practical considerations that may affect the
handling of IDW will be considered.
Listed below are the procedures that will be followed for handling the IDW. The procedures
have enough flexibility to allow the sampling team to use its professional judgment as to the
proper method for the disposal of each type of IDW generated at each sampling location:
• Used PPE and disposable equipment will be double-bagged and placed in a
municipal refuse dumpster on site. These wastes are not considered hazardous and
can be sent to a municipal landfill. Any PPE and disposable equipment that is to
be disposed of which can still be reused will be rendered inoperable before
disposal in the refuse dumpster.
• Decontamination fluids that will be generated in the field investigation will be
drummed into 55-gallon DOT-approved containers, labelled, sealed, and stored
onsite pending laboratory analysis.
• Soil cuttings generated during the subsurface sampling will be drummed into
DOT-approved containers, labelled, sealed, and stored onsite pending soil sample
analysis results.
• Purged groundwater will be drummed into 55-gallon DOT-approved containers,
labelled, sealed, and stored onsite pending groundwater sample analysis results.
When the analytical data package is received, it will be determined how to dispose
of the water.
8.0 SAMPLE DOCUMENTATION AND SHIPMENT
8.1 Field logbooks
Field logbooks will document where, when, how, and from whom any vital project information
was obtained. Logbook entries will be complete and accurate enough to permit reconstruction
of field activities. A separate logbook or logsheets will be prepared for each sampling event.
Logbooks or lognotes are bound with consecutively numbered pages. All entries will be legible,
written in black ink, and signed by the individual making the entries. Language will be factual,
objective and free of personal opinions or other terminology which might prove inappropriate.
At a minimum, the following information will be recorded during the collection of each sample:
• Sample location and description
• Sampler's name(s)
• Date and time of sample collection
• Designation of sample as composite or grab
na36216198SAPlwebsap2.wp5 WEBER BLOCK (Area 9) Sampling and Analysis Plan
Page 16
