i
15 June 2004
AGE-NC Project No 95-0142
3.0. FINDINGS
Between December 2003 and February 2004,the SVE system operated continuously at a typical rate
of 200 cfm Analytical results of influent ground water samples and ground water extraction
measurements were used to evaluated the volume of impacted ground water removed and mass of
hydrocarbons treated
3 1 SOIL-VAPOR EXTRACTION
The SVE unit operated at varying rates during the observation period Extraction flow rates were
calculated to range from 190 to approximately 200 cfm An induced vacuum(negative pressure) of
approximately 64 to over 100 inches of water was measured 1n the piping between the blower and
extraction wells The SVE unit operation was continuous over the quarter
Hydrocarbon concentrations detected in influent soil-vapor samples were as follows
• 09 December TPH-g was detected at 2,600 µg/1, benzene at 6 ltg/l, toluene at 160 µg/1,
ethylbenzene at 52 gg/1 and total xylenes at 320 gg/l
• 30 December TPH-g was detected at 1,200 pg/l, benzene at 2 4 gg/l, toluene at 51 gg/l,
ethylbenzene at 25 gg/1 and total xylenes at 150 ig/l
• 26 January TPH-g was detected at 580 µg/1, benzene at 0 72 µg/1, toluene at 12 µg/l,
ethylbenzene at 6 8 µg/1 and total xylenes at 47 µg/1
• 23 February TPH-g was detected at 200 µg/1, toluene at 0 84 µg/l, ethylbenzene at 12 gg/l
and total xylenes at 27 µg/1
The analytical results are summarized on Table 2 The laboratory reports (MAI Sample Numbers
0312191,0312541,0401297 and 0402312)Quality Assurance and Quality Control(QA/QC)reports
and chain-of-custody forms are included in Appendix D
Hydrocarbon concentrations measured in samples from the effluent stream indicated a minimum 95
percent rate of destruction Concentrations of extracted organic vapor measured with the OVM were
low compared to the analytical results from the soil-vapor samples The highest concentration of
organic vapor measured with the OVM was 769 ppm, observed at startup
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
