29 September 2003
AGE-NC Project No 99-0654
' 2 5 EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All probing rods used were cleaned prior to advancement in each probe boring location. The
sampling equipment was washed in an Alconox solution and rinsed with water prior to each
sampling run to avoid cross-contamination
2 6 BOREHOLE ABANDONMENT
At the conclusion of soil boring activities, the bonngs were permanently sealed to prevent vertical
migration of contaminants Under EBD oversight, the borehole was backfilled with cement slurry
from the total depth to surface grade
3.0. FINDINGS
Soil descriptions and ground water elevation and flow direction were determined from field data
liePetroleum hydrocarbon impacts to soil and ground water was inferred from laboratory analysis of
the soil and ground water samples
3 1 SOIL DESCRIPTIONS
I The soil encountered in all four borings at discrete depths between 5 and 30 feet bsg consisted
predominantly of yellow brown and orange brown, dry to moist, clayey to sandy silt, with the
exception of an apparently laterally discontinuous, blue-gray, fine- to medium-grained clayey to
poorly-graded sand at approximately 25 feet bsg in borings B-1, B-2 and B-4 A blue-gray, clayey
to poorly-graded fine sand was encountered from 35 feet bsg to 45 feet bsg, ground water was
encountered in the blue-gray sand at approximately 40 to 45 feet bsg Soil boring logs are included
' in Appendix B
' 32 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF SOIL SAMPLES
' TPH-g,MTBE, and BTEX compounds were detected at all four boring locations(Table 1) TPH-g
was detected in soil samples at maximum concentrations of 21,000 milligrams per kilogram(mg/kg)
in boring B1 at 35 feet bsg MTBE was detected in soil samples at maximum concentrations of
' 5 6 mg/kg (B4-35') BTEX compounds were detected at maximum concentrations of 27 mg/kg,
600 mg/kg, 270 mg/kg, and 1,420 mg/kg of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes,
respectively in boring B1-35'
' Advanced GeoEaysranmental,Inc-
'
