' PRIOR USE OF REMOVED LIST'S:
The site had been the location of a gasoline station for many
' years, the removed tanks had been used for dispensing gasoline
and storing waste oil. The property is presently being used as
an automotive tune-up & repair facility, the dispensing Pumps &
associated piping were removed along with the tanks. There are
no records available concerning the dates that the tanks
were
installed_
' SUMMARY OF PRIOR WORK DONE
On December 5, 1986, Western Meter Service filed an application
with the County EHD for removal of two (2) 3,000 gallon gasoline
tanks and one (1) 200 gallon waste oil tank from the property
The application was approved with changes on December 17, 1986the
EXHIBIT A is a copy of that document According to a copy
t Underground Storage Tank Unauthorized Release Contamination Site
Report, dated May 4, 1988, (see EXHIBIT B. ) the work was
performed on April 20 , 1987 ; (however, the laboratory reports
show that soil samples were collected on April 21 ) The comment
was made by the County EHD representative that soil contamina-
tion noted during tank removal & confirmed with soil results
The form does not specify which tank or tanks revealed contami-
' nation during removal; it is assumed that the statement referred
to the removed waste oil tank, since laboratory analysis of the
line soil samples taken rtoo theTABtwo
I &gaso
ks d
for detid ails.
reveal any
fer
ils
' contamination
After receiving the laboratory results of the soil samples, the
excavation which contained the two gasoline tanks was filled with
' clean fill and the removed spoil. Because the samples from the
waste oil tank site revealed significant levels of Ethylbenzene,
Toluene, Xylene, & motor oil, (refer to TABLE II & EXHIBIT D for
' details, ) that hole was left open pending further work.
On June 15, 1987, the site of the removed waste oil tank was
' deepened to about 8 1/2' using a backhoe Hardpan was encoun-
tered at that depth, and a sample was obtained by driving a clean
brass tube into the bottom of the excavation- the sample
analyzed for TPH, which revealed levels of 1500 mg/kg gasoline &
4200 mg/kg motor oil; diesel & kerosene were below detection
limits. Refer to TABLE III & EXHIBIT E for details.
On August 14 , 1987 , the site of the removed waste oil tank was
reentered, aofetheed to EHD. lA soilfeet,
sampleunder
was takendirection
that depth
representative
3
