c) The remaining material will be described by the geologist
in charge, and recorded on field logs Any unused material &
drill cuttings will be properly contained for storage and later
disposal .
4 . After obtaining a soil sample at or near the capillary
fringe, a hydropunch or similar type equipment will be pushed
into the water table a sufficient distance to allow collection of
a water sample for analysis . A clean teflon or stainless steel
bailer will be lowered into the hydropunch tool and the removed
water will be placed in previously preserved glass vials for
analysis . Care will be taken to insure that there is no
headspace in the vials, they will be labeled and preserved for
analysis
5 After completion of coring and sampling operations, auger
hole "B" will be thoroughly grouted from bottom to the surface
with a cement slurry under the direction of a representative of
the San Joaquin County EHD. If soil and water samples taken from
auger holes "A" , "C" , & "D" (see PLATE I) reveal that no contam-
ination is present, they will be converted to groundwater moni-
toring wells as described below However, if evidence of soil
and/or water contamination is noted, they will not be converted
to wells, but will be grouted in the same manner as auger hole
"B"
6 Soil & water samples will be transported under chain of
custody to a Certified laboratory, (either onsite or standard, )
with instructions to analyze for BETX (EPA 8020 , ) & TPH-G (EPA
8015M, ) with MTBE distinction using detection limits as specified
by the San Joaquin County EHD and CWQCB.
If auger holes "A" , "C" , or "D" do not reveal any soil or water
contamination, each, (or all , ) will be converted to monitoring
wells as detailed below
7 . After determining the potentiometric surface, estimated to be
about 46 ' bgl, the augers will be advanced a minimum of 10 ' below
water depth.
8 2" blank & slotted, flush screw-thread PVC casing, fitted
with a screw-type bottom cap, will be run in the hole . Screen
length will be 201 , and will extend from bottom to 10 ' above the
water table Slot size to be . 020" When bottom is reached, the
casing will be pulled up slightly to avoid the possibility of
buckling or laying against the side of the hole The annular
space between casing & augers will be filled with clean, graded,
#2 1/2 or #3 sand. The casing will be constantly vibrated during
6
