In Additional Excavation and Confirmation Soil Sampling Report dated August 22,2003 prepared by <br /> Hygienetics Environmental Services,Inc. (Hygienetics), the reported analytical results of the soil <br /> samples collected from the stock pile were as high as 1,400 milligrams per kilograms (mg/kg) of <br /> diesel. Hygienetics also calculated the amount of soilremoved!in July,2003 to be approximately 85 <br /> cubic yards,and allowing for expansion, 110 cubic yards. 1-hygientics,subsequently recommended <br /> spreading the contaminated soil at a thickness of 8 inches on (unpaved) ground surface at the site in <br /> a letter dated October 3,2003. '1 <br /> i EHD has determined that the maximum level of diesel contar mation in soil that can be left in place <br /> without threatening groundwater in this area is 1,000 mg/kg. Therefore, at 1,400 mg/kg this criteria <br /> is not met. However,since only portions of the stockpile contained diesel contamination,EHD has <br /> agreed to allow you to spread the soil at the property on both sides of the rail track,with the <br /> tion that the contaminated soil be spread in a separate a <br /> condirea.. You are required to resample the <br /> soil after spreading and submit the results to EHD within 2 weeks. If the samples still exceed 1,000 <br /> I; mg/kg,you are required to remove the contaminated soil to an off site facility for proper disposal. <br /> Implement spreading of the stockpile by October 30,2003.
