GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
All proposed extraction wells, including newly-installed wells, will initially be monitored and
sampled prior to remedial operations. The proposed monitoring event will provide baseline
concentration values , which will be used to gauge the overall performance of DPE
operations . Procedures for ground water sample collection are presented in Section 3 .2 .4,
2 . 5 . INSTALLATION OF REMEDIATION SYSTEM PIPING NETWORK
Dual phase extraction remediation system piping will be installed underground in a 24-inch
wide by a 18-inch deep trench and utilizing a series of 1 - inch diameter, schedule 40 PVC
piping . Additionally, as secondary containment, all 1 -inch diameter DPE remediation piping
will be installed inside 2-inch diameter, schedule 40 PVC piping . The proposed trenching
lay-out is depicted in Figure 3 ; a cross sectional view of the ground water extraction piping
is depicted in Figure 6 .
2 .6 . REMEDIATION SYSTEM FENCING
Installation of a 15-foot wide by 25-foot long , chain-link, gated enclosure will be located in
southern section of the site to incorporate the DPE remediation system . The proposed
remediation system fencing enclosure is illustrated in Figure 3 .
2 .7 , PROPOSED DUAL PHASE EXTRACTION REMEDIATION SYSTEM
The proposed DPE system will consist of a 20-horsepower, oil filled liquid-ring blower with
a electric fired catalytic oxidizer used to simultaneously extract ground water and soil-vapor
from the two proposed DPE wells , VW- 1 through VW-3 and MW-7 (Figure 3 ). The
liquid-ring blower under standard temperature and pressure is capable of producing a
maximum vacuum of 28-inches mercury (Hg ) with a nominal capacity of 300 cubicfeet per
minute(CFM)-System information is providedin AppeMix B,Hydrocarbonimpacted
ground water will be treated by processing the extracted water through a series of liquid
phase activated carbon vessels . Treated ground water will be discharged in the sanitary
sewer system .
2 .8 . REMEDIATION MONITORING AND MAINTENANCE
During the dual-phase extraction start-up period (first week of operation ) , influent and
effluent-vapor samples and DPE water samples will be collected on a daily basis and
submitted for laboratory analysis of petroleum constituents (i . e .
