Report—Vapor Extraction/Air Sparge Remedial System Page 3
Former Bank of Stockton 1 Western Lift Site
1 Project No. 102.3
March 25, 2005
2.0 PILOT TEST SYSTEM INSTALLATION
2.1 Permitting
Permitting for the on-site work included a drilling permit from the San Joaquin County
Public Environmental Health Department (SJC-EHD). The San Joaquin Valley Unified
' Air Pollution Control District (SJVUAPCD) previously issued a Permit to Construct
covering the vapor extraction system.
1 2.2 Soil Boring Installation
In order to complete the system, a total of eight new soil borings were installed in the area
of the release. From April 26 through April 29, 2004 a BK-81 hollow stem auger drilling
rig, owned and operated by V&W Drilling Co. (a C-57 licensed contractor), was used to
drill the borings.
' Each soil borings was drilled and sampled with 8-inch o.d. hollow stemmed auger tools.
The borings were then over-drilled using 12-inch diameter augers. During drilling, the
borings were logged and sampled by a professional geologist supervised by a registered
' geologist.
The borings that were to be completed as vapor extraction wells were drilled to a total
Ile depth of 45 feet and the air sparge borings were drilled to a total depth of 50 feet. Five
borings were designated as Vapor Extraction Wells (VIEW 2 through 6) and 3 borings
' were designated as Air Sparge Wells (ASW 2 through 4). While drilling, all soil cuttings
were stockpiled pending profiling and proper disposal.
2.3 Well Construction
The following sub-sections describe the physical characteristics of each well constructed.
Upon completion, traffic rated well boxes were installed over each well and the well heads
were equipped with lockable water tight well caps.
2.3.1 Vapor Extraction Well Construction
The following table describes the construction of the vapor extraction wells:
Casing 4 inch Schedule 40 PVC
' Screen 0.010 inch slotted 4 inch Schedule 40 PVC
Screened interval 20-45 feet below ground surface(bgs)
Filter Pack 45-15 feet bgs
' Filter Pack Material 43 Sand
Bentonite Transition Seal 15-13 feet bgs
Annular Seal 13-0 feet bgs
2937 Veneman Ave., 4B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
