13 October 1997
AGE Project No. 95-0118
—j Each sample was analyzed in accordance with EPA methods 5030/8015m for total petroleum
J hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline'(TPH-g),in accordance with EPA methods 8020 for volatile
aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes: BTE&X) and in accordance with EPA
methods 8240 and 8260 for.methyl-tert-butyl ether (MTBE) and other oxygenated fuel additives,
including tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether(RIPE), ethyl tertiary butyl ether(ETRE)
and tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME) and other volatile organic compounds.
3.0. FINDINGS
3.1. RELATIVE GROUND WATER ELEVATION'AND GRADIENT
-:f
The relative ground water elevation in each well was calculated by subtracting the ground water
depth from the surveyed relative casing elevation The depth to ground water and the relative ground
water elevations are summarized in Table 1 - Ground Water Elevation Data.
During the August 1997 sampling, the depth to ground water from the casing tops at the site ranged
' from 36.76 to 38.60 feet. Between April and August 1997, the average depth to ground water
increased an average 2.5 feet. In August 1997,the ground water flow was toward the northwest. The.
steepest gradient in the measurable area was estimated to be 0.0075 ft/ft. Relative ground water
elevation contours are illustrated in Figure 3 -Relative Ground Water Elevation.
3.2. ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
Water samples from MW-2 and MW-3 contained TPH-g at concentrations of 1,100 micrograms per
liter: ,uglL (parts per billion: ppb) and 1,200 ppb, respectively. The same samples contained benzene
at concentrations of 6.4 ppb and 33 ppb, toluene at 45 ppb and 230 ppb, ethylbenzene at 61 ppb and
.I 43 ppb, and xylenes at 230 ppb and 210 ppb, respectively.
The water sample collected from air-sparging well VW-2 contained significant concentrations of
TPH-g,quantified at 2,500 ppb and BTE&X compounds were detected at concentrations as high as
300 ppb. Benzene was present at a concentration of 93 ppb.
The water sample collected from MW-5 did not contained detectable concentration of TPH-g or
BTE&X compounds. MTBE, TBA, DIPE, ETBE, TAME were not detected in any of the water
samples analyzed.
✓ Advanced GcoEnvironmenta[,Inc.
