r 02 March 2005
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0360
amber bottle without preservative. After colIection,:the samples were properly labeled, placed in a
chilled container, and transported under chain of custody to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories
(CTEL), a California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified analytical laboratory. The
samples were analyzed for:
Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) and diesel (TPH-d) in
._. accordance with EPA Method 8015M; and
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes(BTEX)and fael additives methyl tertiary-
butyl ether (MTBE), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE),
tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA), 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB), and
1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) in accordance with EPA Method 826013.
3.0. FINDINGS
Ground water elevation, flow direction, and gradient were determined from field data collected on
20 July 2004. The hydrocarbon impact to ground water was quantified from laboratory analysis of
== the ground water samples.
,,t I 3.1. GROUND WATER GRADIENT AND FLOW DIRECTION
'I
<. At the time of the July 2004 sampling event, depths to ground water in wells MW-1 through MW-5
and EW-1 ranged from 6.86 feet(EW-1)to 8.26 feet(MW-3)below the well heads.Average ground
water elevation at the site (excluding MW-2 and EW-1) was approximately 4.20 feet above mean
sea level (MSL; Table 1).
The ground water flow direction was inferred using ground water elevation data from the monitoring
wells on-site. Well MW-2 was not used to determine ground water flow direction or gradient
Ibecause it is screened at a deeper interval than the other wells. Well EW-1 was not used to determine
ground water flow direction or gradient because it has a larger casing diameter than the other wells.
I' Ground water flow direction was inferred to be toward the northW"t and 0ieast at gradients of
i ! approximately 0.002 foot/foot(ft/ft)and 0.001 ft/ft,respectively. Figure 3 illustrates the contoured
groundwater elevations as measured on 20 July 2004.
3.2. ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
TPH-g was detected in samples from wells MW-2 and MW-5 at concentrations of 270 micrograms
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
it
