D. Land Application Area Specifications 1. The discharge shall be distributed uniformly on adequate acreage in compliance with the Effluent Limitations. 2. Crops shall be grown on the application area. Crops shall be selected based on nutrient uptake capacity, tolerance to high soil moisture conditions, and consumptive use of water and irrigation requirements. Cropping activities shall be sufficient to take up all the nitrogen applied. Crops shall be harvested and removed from the application area. 3. The freeboard in the land disposal facility shall never be less than one foot as measured vertically from the water surface to the lowest point of overflow. 4. Furrow runs shall be no longer and slopes shall be no greater than that which permits reasonable uniform infiltration and maximum practical application efficiency. 5. Wastewater application areas (e.g. furrows) shall be allowed to dry for at least 72 hours from the end of wastewater application. 6. The land application facility shall have sufficient capacity to accommodate allowable wastewater flow, design seasonal precipitation, and ancillary inflow and infiltration. Design seasonal precipitation shall be based on total annual precipitation using a return period of 100 years, distributed monthly in accordance with the historical rainfall patterns. 7. Application of wastewater to the land application area shall be performed in accordance with the approved Operation and Maintenance Plan required by Provision G.1.e. 8. There shall be no standing water in the disposal area 24 hours after wastewater is applied, except during periods of heavy rains sustained over two or more consecutive days. 9.
