31 August 2000 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 00-0725 <br /> Page 3 of 9 <br /> • Installation of ground water wells " <br /> • Well development and survey <br /> • Monitoring well sample collection <br /> • Report preparation <br /> 3 1 PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES <br /> A health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health <br /> Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety <br /> and Health Administration, U S Coast Guard and U S Environmental Protection Agency, 1985) <br /> Prior to mobilization,the area of excavation will be clearly marked and an utility clearance obtained <br /> through Underground Service Alert Permits required from other agencies will be procured <br /> 32 SOIL EXCAVATION <br /> Hydrocarbon-impacted soil from beneath the former dispenser islands will be excavated to facilitate <br /> an overall mass reduction of contaminants The excavated soil will be sampled and transported to a <br /> licensed landfill facility for disposal Based upon laboratory results of soil samples collected during <br /> assessment,we estimate the removal of approximately 300 cubic yards of impacted soil from the site <br /> Soil will be removed to a depth of approximately 15 feet bsg using an excavator The proposed extent <br /> of soil excavation is depicted on Figure 2 A soil excavation profile is depicted on Figure 3 <br /> During excavation activities, soil will be screened for organic vapors (OVs) using a organic vapor <br /> meter(OVM) Excavated soil that appears visibly stained or has a petroleum hydrocarbon odor will <br /> be considered impacted <br /> 3 3 SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS <br /> A total of five soil samples from each excavation will be collected and submitted for <br /> laboratory analysis Following State of California Regional Water Quality Board,Tri-Regional Board <br /> recommendations, soil samples will be collected from the base and each side wall of the "new" <br /> excavation at a minimum interval of every 20 linear feet Soil samples will be collected from the base <br /> of the excavation at a minimum of one sample for every 400 square feet of excavation area Field <br /> . procedures for collection of soil samples are presented in Section 4 2 <br /> Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc <br />
