08 September 2009
AGE -NC Project No. 03-1055
of the site; procedures and results of the soil excavations are presented in the AGE -prepared
Excavation and Sampling Report, dated 30 January 2004. Excavated soil was field screened
for the presence of volatile organic compounds using an OVM. Ground water was present
within the limits of the excavation at a depth of 13 feet bsg. Monitoring well MW -2 was
destroyed during excavation activities. On 21 October 2003, the excavation was halted due
to the discovery of one 500 -gallon UST.
November 2003 - One 500 -gallon UST was removed under the supervision of the EHD; the
UST removal is documented in the AGE -prepared Excavation and Sampling Report, dated
30 January 2004. Excavation activities resumed on 10 November 2003 and continued until
12 November 2003. At this time, the excavation was backfilled with clean fill material.
Saturated soil was excavated from below the water table and stockpiled on-site within a soil
containment berm. Soil was placed on plastic sheets for temporary storage.
• July 2004 - Two soil borings were advanced at the site for the collection of soil samples and
installation of two ground water monitoring wells (MW -6 and MW -7) to total depths of 20
feet bsg; procedures and results of the well installations are presented in the AGE -prepared
Monitoring Well Installation and Quarterly Monitoring Report, dated 14 October 2004. A
total of five soil samples were analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbon constituents. TPH-g and
TPH-d were reported in one soil sample collected from boring MW6 at concentrations of
3.5 mg/kg and 37 mg/kg, respectively.
June 2005 - Three soil borings were advanced at the site for the collection of soil samples
and installation of three ground water monitoring wells (MW -8 through MW -10) to total
depths of 20 feet bsg; procedures and results of the well installations are presented in the
AGE -prepared Monitoring Well Installation and Quarterly Monitoring Report, dated 12
December 2005. A total of six soil samples were analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbon
constituents. TPH-g were reported in soil sample MW9-15 at 20 mg/kg. No other
constituents of concern were reported in any of the soil samples analyzed.
September 2007 - Six off-site soil probe borings B 10 through B 15 were advanced to total
depths of 25 feet bsg. Borings were located near the center of Adams Street (B 12 through
B] 5) and east of the site in the city sidewalk. (B 10 and B 11); procedures and results of the
investigation are presented in the AGE -prepared Additional Site Assessment Report, dated
18 October 2007. A total of six grab ground water samples and 30 soil samples from borings
B-10 through B-15 were collected and analyzed.
TPH-g were reported in grab ground water samples at a maximum concentrations of
9,700 µg/l (B 15-W). BTEX compounds and MTBE were reported in ground water samples
at a maximum concentration of 16 µg/1 benzene, 9.4 µg/1 toluene, 37 µg/1 ethyl -benzene, and
59 µg/1 total xylenes, and 27 µg/l MTBE, all in sample B11 -W.
TPH-g, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes were reported in soil samples B 11-10 at maximum
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
