• <br />GeoStrategies Inc. <br />Chevron USA, Inc <br />February 6, 1992 <br />Page 2 <br />SOIL AND GROUND -WATER SAMPLING <br />Soil samples were collected by pushing a clean stainless steel sample tube into <br />the soil until completely full The ends of each tube were covered with teflon <br />tape and sealed with plastic end caps The samples were then labeled, placed in <br />a cooler on blue ice, entered on a Chain -of -Custody form and transported to <br />Western Environmental Science and Technology (WEST), a State -certified <br />environmental laboratory located in Davis, California <br />Excavation samples were collected by using a backhoe bucket The top 1 to 3 <br />inches of soil were removed, then the sample was collected as described above <br />Stockpile samples were collected by removing the top 6 to 12 inches of soil, <br />then pushing the tube into the soil This method was repeated three times until <br />tube was completely full Samples were then handled as described above <br />Ground -water samples <br />obtain the sample from <br />liter amber glass bottles <br />inspected to insure that <br />as described above <br />Excavation Sam ling <br />were collected using a clean stainless steel bailer to <br />the excavation The sample was transported in two l- <br />and three 40 -milliliter glass vials The containers were <br />no air bubbles were present The samples were handled <br />One excavation sample (CW -1) was collected from beneath the waste oil tank at <br />a depth of approximately 10 feet below grade (Plate 3) The sample was <br />analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons calculated as Gasoline (TPH- <br />Gasoline), Diesel (TPH-Diesel) and Oil (TPH-Oil) according to EPA Method <br />8015 (Modified), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX) according <br />to EPA Method 8020, Halogenated Solvents (CL HC) according to EPA <br />Method 8010, Oil and Grease (O&G) according to ASTM Method 5520 E&F, <br />ICAP Metals by atomic absorption (EPA Method 7000) and Semi -Volatile <br />Organic Priority Pollutants (PCBs) according to EPA Method 8270 <br />Stockpile Sam lin <br />Sample CWS -1 was collected from a stockpile north of the excavation (Plate 3) <br />This sample represented approximately 15 cubic yards of soil and was analyzed <br />for TPH-Gasoline, TPH-Diesel, TPH-Oil, BTEX, O&G, ICAP Metals, CL HC <br />and PCBs <br />729702-2 <br />
