The inforrm)tion noted will include: sample
depths,How counts, horizons of detectable contamination(detected by field methods),
soil(Jarisification utilizing the Unified Soil Classification System and sediment
description(color,texture,composition,.hardness,moisture content,and post-
depositional changes that hate occurred in the sediments).
r 4.3 Soil Sampling .
Soil samples will be collected at 5 foot intervals in the first boring to char
ac#erize the
sediment types and to confirm the lateral continuity of the strata. If a contamination
odor is detected in soil above the aquifer, soil samples will be collected and analyzed..
Brass sample tubes will be sealed with aluminum foil, capped, labeled and
irrunediately refrigerated for transport to a state certified analytical laboratory. Soil
samples not analyzed will be kept refrigerated until project completion.
4.4 Sample Screening
Because not every soil sample collected will be analyzed,a scr:-e3ting•Ncess is used to
_ select representative samples. The goal of this selective process is to reduce the cost of
the project without compromising the quality. From field observations noting sediment
type, moisture content;and the presence of contamination odor certain samples can be
selected that represent discrete horizons. The presence of contamination barriers can
also bo detected by this method.
4.5 Disposition of Soll Boring Cuttings
. Since drilling will be performed outside the zone of soil contamination, drill cuttings
will be land spread on the properties the monitoring wells are installed.
4.6 Monitoring Well Design
Monitoring wel„for the upper aquifer will extend to a depth of 15 feet and will be
constructed of 2-inch threaded-joint PVC pipe(schedule 40)that's perforated from the
bottom of the well to a depth of 5 feet. Medium aquarium sand will be used to create a
_ filter pack that extends from the bottom of the well to 2 feet above the perforated zone..
-. --- ----`-J-- -- A-bentunit vac(Quik Gel/Benseal mix)will be emplace above the filter pack in the------ -- -
annular spece by using the tremie method.
