^ Stewart's Beacon Property
Phase 11-Cround Water Assessment Proposal
Page: S
surface seas obtained by cementing in a water tight well box and a Iocking cap.
Construction of this type of monitoring well is illustrated in Figure 3.
Monitoring wells designed to test the second aquifer, will be constructed as follows: the
upper aquifer will be isolated by an 84nch casing(schedule 80 PVC). Hollow stem
auger drilling will be performed through this 8-inch casing. Continuous soil sampling
will be done to evaluate the strata. The boring will terminate into the:second aquifers
lower bounding clay layer. The well will be constructed of 2-inch PVC pipe(schedule
40),perforated with 0.04 inch slots up to about one foot above the top of the aquifer.
Filter pack will be made of medium aquarium sand and a bentonite annular seat placed
above the filter pack. The well will be secured with a locking well cap, water tight
well cover and a concrete surface seal(about 3 feet deep).
4.7 Monitoring Well Development
Each monitoring well will be developed before a water sample is collected. This will
be accomplished by pumping until dear ground water is obtained and then removing an
additional 5 well volumes. Where time-endurance sampling procedures are used,
ground water will be pumped over a period of several hours with samples being
collected periodically throughout the course of pumping. The extracted ground water
will be stored in 55-gallon drun s until it's determined if the water is contaminated.
t Contaminated water will be treated during the ground water remediation program.
. After permission is obtained from the County, uncontaminated water will be released
into the city storm drain system.
4.8 Ground Water Sampling
If its been over 24 hours since the monitoring well was developed,5 well volumes will
be removed(one well volume=the amount of water contained within the well casing)
before sampling the ground water. A travel blank will be provided by the laboratory
and blanks will be collected before sampling to insure bailer or pump cleanliness.
Water samples will be collected by using either a Teflon bailer or a bladder pump.
4.9 Cross Contamination Prevention
All sample equipment(split spoon sampler,brass tubes,bailer,&pumps)and auger
(drilling rod, drilling bits,&auger) ,will be thoroughly steam cleaned before being used
and between uses. Plastic gloves will be worn while collected and changed between all
samples:--------- - --- —-- —-----—-- --— — ---- -
