n
INITIAL STUDY/ENVIRONMENTAL DOCUMENTATION
LSAASSOCIATES,INC- STOCKTON METROPOLrrAN AIRPORT
JULY 2000 SPECIAL PURPOSE PLAN
Seismic-related ground failure,including liquefaction?
No impact. Seismic-related ground failure and liquefaction are not expected.
E
All construction will be performed in compliance with state building code
regulations and should mitigate seismic-related impacts.
iv) Landslides?
No impact. The airport site is generally flat and not susceptible to unstable
i soil conditions. The proposed project will not expose people to risks of
landslides or mudflows.
b) Result in substantial soil erosion or the loss of topsoil?
I i
Less than significant impact. BMPs shall be used that prevent soil erosion, drainage
channel scour, etc., during construction as previously addressed in the Airport
Master Plan EIR. Project implementation will increase the area of paved surfaces
thus decreasing long-term erosion of top soils,
C) Be located on a geologic unit or soil that is unstable,or that would become
unstable as a result of the project, and potentially result in on-or off-site
landslide,lateral spreading,subsidence,liquefaction or collapse?
No impact. There is no known evidence of land subsidence in the project area. See
also (a)above..
d) Be located on expansive soil, as defined in Table 18-1-B of the Uniform Building
Code(1994),creating substantial risks to life or property?
Potentially significant unless mitigated. Similar to most of the greater Stockton area,
the project soils are subject to"high" shrink-swell behavior. When buildings are
placed on expansive soils, foundations rise during wet periods and fall during dry
periods. Different parts of a building may rise and fall at varying rates causing
foundation damage and cracking. Hazards of expansive soils may be avoided
through proper drainage and foundation design. As a result, all structures proposed
in the project area must include corrective measures to accommodate expansive soil
potential
Mitigation Measure
S-1 In conjunction with site development and prior to issuance of building
permits, specific project area developers or applicants must submit soils
reports prepared by a qualified engineering geologist,or equivalent
professional to the County Building Inspection Division for approval. The
report must specify the soil conditions and character, and indicate how
proposed structures and foundations will be designed to accommodate
expansive soil constraints.
e) Have soils incapable of adequately supporting the use of septic tanks or
alternative waste water disposal systems where sewers are not available for the
disposal of waste water?
7120100(P:1SJC0301Envirenmentallinitial study.wpd)
t 34
