r)
implemented, the County shall identify an acceptable mitigation site and obtain approval of the
mitigation from the DFG. A formal agreement will be established and fees shall be paid before any
R activity affecting burrowing owls or their habitat occurs.
Ea
Impact VW-12: Loss of or Disturbance to an Active Raptor Nest
P,
Project activities could result in the loss of or disturbance to active raptor nests within the
project boundary. Disturbing an active raptor nest would violate Sections 3503 and 3503.5 of the
California Fish and Game Code. Therefore, this impact is considered significant.
Implementation of the following mitigation measure would reduce this impact to a less-than-
significant level.
Mitigation Measure VW-7: Conduct a Survey for Nesting Raptors and Avoid Nest Trees
A survey should be conducted by a qualified biologist during spring or early summer(April-
July) before the start of construction activities. If an active nest is located within 500 feet of the
construction area, the nest tree should be avoided during the nesting season (March-June 15) until
the young have fledged. If an active nest tree cannot be avoided, the removal should occur after the
breeding season (after June 15 and before March 1).
k
Impact VW-13: Loss of Suitable Foraging Habitat for
Other Special-Status Species
Removal of suitable foraging and nesting habitat resulting from project activities could affect
tricolored blackbirds, white-tailed kites, and northern harriers. This impact is not considered
significant because foraging habitat for these species is abundant in the region, and impacts on the
species would be limited to a small number of individuals and would not affect a significant portion
of their population.
F
Mitigation Measure
None required.
F
FStockton Metropolitan Airport Project Chapter 6.
