The existing manure management system is adequate for the existing facilities and operations.
The expansion of herd population at Phase I through Phase IV will require site improvements
necessary to accommodate this growth.
• Phase►— In phase one (fall 2003) install a state of the art milking parlor, a well, and two state
k of the art freestall barns to accommodate a population of 960 lactating cows. Replace the
existing settling pond with a new settling pond and extend the lagoon. Install nstall a manure solids
storage area, and install a manure water irrigation system with drain ditches and return system
designed to control all onsite water.
• Phase ft—(spring 2005) install two additional freestall barns and a well to'bring g brin lactating cow
population to 1310. Install a new settling pond.
• Phase BY— (spring 2007) install two additional freestall barns to bring lactating cow population
t ' to 1665.
,-. • Phase►V— (spring 2008) install two additional freestall barns to bring lactating cow population
to 1900.
The projected capacity required at this facility (based on a six month storage of manure effluent,
milk parlor water and rainfall runoff) to ensure the maximum volume can be retained on site is
10,364,203 gallons (Phase 1), 13,595,590 gallons (Phase ll); 17,034,478 gallons (Phase III);.
19,511,090 gallons (Phase IV); and adding the 3.4 inches from a 25 year 24 hour storm is
2,630,105 n gallons (Phase 1), 3,212,889 $ gallons (Phase 11), 3,555,172 B gallons (Phase III),
4,009,452 B gallons (Phase IV), resulting in a total volume of manure effluent to be 12,994,308
gallons (Phase 1), 16,808,479 gallons (Phase Il); 20,589,650 gallons (Phase 111); and 23,520,542
gallons (Phase IV).
CAPACITY LIMITS GALLONS
Phase I Phase 11 Phase III Phase IV
_ Accumulation of Manure 10,364,203 13,595,590 17,034,478 191511;090
Effluent and Rainfall Runoff
Rainfall Runoff 25 r.124 hr. 2,630,105 3,212,889 x`3,555,172 4,009,452 j
Total Capacity Required 12,994,308 16,808,479 20,589,650 23,520,542
Settling Pond I Lagoon 20,619,164 23,755,198 23,755,198 23,755,198 c
Storage Capacity (Projected)
 Notes:
A. For Phase I, Capacity of lagoon is sufficient to retain all liquids. Settling pond will not be
needed for winter rainfall storage.
B. Capacity includes storage for one settling pond, in lieu of two ponds. The design of settling ;
ponds is to retain the solids, and the liquids will overspill from one pond to the other; then '
to the flush lagoon. Therefore, both ponds will never be full simultaneously. Refer to
•- Effluent Calculations, Appendix F.
C. Please note that the projected capacity is higher than the required capacity. j
P
f .
Refer to page 22 for Endnotes and Reference Sources
Western Dairy Design Associates,Inc.2003
4 Page 2
 r
e r
 r
