Surface&Subsurface Contamination Report Page 21
Sandhu Farms
Project No. 655.1
August 15, 2012
The orchards aside, the following paragraphs outline some details of the
Property.
Building Complexes
There are two on-site farm-building complexes; both are accessible by the private
road that forms the north boundary of the Property. For the purposes of this
report, the northwest complex is referred to as building complex 1 while the
northeasterly site is building complex 2. Buildings described in the report are
associated with a number, which correspond to an index on the site sketch map
in Appendix A.
Building Complex 1 is the main group of structures on the Property. It consists
of a shop/barn (1), which appears entirely empty. A lean-to structure on the
north side of the building houses several 5-gallon containers of waste oil and the
concrete floor here is heavily oil stained in the immediate area of the containers.
Nearby are two houses (6&7) and three trailer houses (3, 4, & 5). Also in this
area is an old wooden shed that was originally used as a stable but is now
unused.
A short distance southeast of the residential area is a barn (8). The building is
locked but views through cracks indicated it is mostly empty except for some
equipment storage. There are also containers of what appear to be pesticides
and herbicides stored here. Just outside the building are two aboveground
storage tanks intended to store motor fuel. The tanks are on a concrete slab
adjacent to the barn and the concrete is not excessively stained. Dark staining,
if present, could suggest a chronic fuel leak or drip. Next to one of the tanks is a
small poly tank marked to indicate it contains a liquid glyphosate pesticide. On
the south side of the barn are a drum and a smaller container of waste oil.
There is slight to moderate staining in the area immediately surrounding the
containers.
South of this barn are sites of two former buildings that have been demolished: a
shed / bunkhouse (10) and a hay barn (9). The site of the barn has been planted
with young almond trees, but small pieces of building debris (mostly wood
fragments) are still present.
Building Complex 2 is near the center of the north line of the Property. It
appears to be abandoned, and consists of an old open face equipment shed (12), a
tank house with attached shed (14), and an abandoned double-wide house trailer
(13). The equipment shed and tank house shed both contain some old discarded
tires. The tank house shed also contains irrigation tubing and scrap lumber.
2937 Veneman Ave.,#B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
