Surface&Subsurface Contamination Report Page 3
Sandhu Farms
Project No. 655.1
August 15, 2012
• A small poly tank of pesticide (glyphosate) also near the barn (8) does not
appear to have impacted the underlying soil.
Indoor Installations
• Buildings on the site predate 1978 and therefore pose the theoretical
potential to include asbestos-based construction materials. The homes on
the Property were not entered, but the site reconnaissance did not reveal
the presence of fibrous material likely to contain such materials.
• Staining to the concrete floor from waste oil containers in a lean-to
attached to the barn (1) is unlikely to have impacted the underlying soil.
• Pesticides stored in the barn (8) are on a slab floor and therefore unlikely
to impact the soil in the event of a release from a container.
(See the maps in Appendix A for graphical representations.)
Past Use of Proparty
The past use of the Property has been entirely agricultural. Historical air
photos (Appendix Q suggest the recent use of the Property was to grow orchard
crops. The land was formerly used to grow row and grain crops since at least
1937, the date of the earliest air photo (see Appendix Q. The assessor's building
records (Appendix F) suggest this general use extends back to at least 1900. The
Assessor's building records do not suggest the past use of underground fuel
tanks or other installation likely to pose a risk of a hazardous release.
Environmental Conditions Impacting Site from Offsite Properties
As a part of this investigation, EDR was contracted to perform a search of State
and Federal electronic environmental databases for an area around the subject
Property (see Section 3.1 and Appendix D). The Property was not identified in
the EDR database report except as the site of a properly abandoned exploratory
gas well dilled in 1974. The well was not productive and does not represent an
environmental concern.
No adjacent parcels were identified in the EDR database report except for three
other exploratory gas wells nearby to the north. All were properly abandoned
dry holes. Diaz Farms at 27057 and 27041 Bird Road produced and disposed of
hazardous waste in 2002. The facility also operated a small underground
gasoline tank. Sasaki Farms at 27706 Bird Road also operated an underground
2937 Veneman Ave.,#B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
