C & B Equipment operates the site as a repair facility, and
conducts equipment and parts sales.
On June 2, 1988, Jim Thorpe Oil, Inc. removed two UST's; one 550 gallon capacity
diesel tank and one 1,000 gallon unleaded gasoline tank. The San Joaquin County
Public Health Services Environmental Health Division (SJCPHS/EHD) inspector Mr.
`I Jaime Favila reported that the diesel tank appeared intact but the soil around it was
- discolored and exhibited an odor. The gasoline tank was observed to have two one-
half inch holes in it at the west end. Odors and discoloration were evident
throughout the tank excavation. Groundwater was encountered at 8.5 feet and two
soil and one groundwater samples were recovered from beneath the former tank
locations.
i
Elevated concentrations of gasoline range and low concentrations of diesel range
-_ petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in the soil sample collected from the west
=, end of the gasoline tank excavation. Approximately 16 cubic yards of soil were
removed from the excavation.
`:-_ On March 15, 1995 the SJCPHSEHD directed that C & B Equipment submit a work
plan to further investigate the extent of contamination at this site. On June 12, 1995
Geological Technics Inc. was contracted to prepare a work plan.
On June 21, 1995 the Work Plan was approved by the SJCPHSEHD.
On July 25, 1995 Geological Technics Inc. personnel directed a preliminary
subsurface investigation which is documented in the following sections of this
report.
1.1 Project Chronology
_. 1988
6/88 UST's removed and soil samples collected
-- 1995
3/95 SJCPHSEHD directed that a work plan be submitted
I 6/96 Work plan submitted and approved
7/95 Three monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, & MW-3) installed
7/95 Collect a round of groundwater samples
i
