Geological Technics Inc. Page 6
C&B Equipment
Monitoring Well Installation Report
I:r Project No.336.2
November 13, 1995
3.0 RESULTS OF SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION
rl The results of this preliminary site characterization work are presented below.
3.1 Site Geology
Based on sediments recovered in the split spoon sampler the soil profile of the site
r.; was observed to generally consist of a clayey silt from the surface to approximately 7
feet with varying amounts of very fine grained silty sand. A very fine to fine
silty/clayey sand unit was observed below the overlying clayey silt unit. This sand
was underlain by a clayey silt layer in both MW-1 and MW-3. All wells terminated
in to a silty sand at 20 feet.
The sediments containing clay fines exhibited varying degrees of plasticity from non
plastic and even friable to very plastic. The soil below a depth of ten feet was
observed to be saturated with water (the water table stabilized at approximately 6.5
=_ feet after well development). The boring logs for the borings are attached in
Appendix B.
Generally no continuous fine grained silt or clay unit was observed in the vadose
3 zone that could potentially function as a barrier to the vertical migration of
contaminants.
3.2 Site Hydrology
On July 28, 1995 the three monitoring wells were measured for depth to
groundwater by Del-Tech Geotechnical Support personnel. The average depth to
water was measured to be 5.94 feet from the top of casing measuring point. The
groundwater gradient and bearing of flow were calculated to be 0.0070 ft/ft flowing
North 32° West respectively (Figure 3-Gradient Map).
' On September 28, 1995 the three monitoring wells were measured for depth to
j groundwater by Del-Tech Geotechnical Support personnel. The average depth to
water was measured to be 6.19 feet from the top of casing measuring point. The
j groundwater gradient and bearing of flow were calculated to be 0.0056 ft/ft flowing
North 18°West respectively (Figure 4-Gradient Map).
>. This hydrologic behavior is consistent with what would be expected based on
surface topography (Figure 1- Vicinity Map).
i
:J
i.-7
