Secondly, the environmental impacts are far more important.
Water
The nitrates found in our drinking water 1 year ago were
above the state maximum at 57 ppm. In order to close escrow,
we had to install a RO system for safe water. Since we have
a chicken ranch to the East dumping large quantities of
manure with apparently no supervision or regulation, the last
thing we need is a 64 horse boarding stable to the West with
no disposal plan for urine or manure. In fact, we think its
about time for the county to start a : regular inspection
program in our area to insure the safety of the residents who
live here. We don't think its reasonable to expect the
applicant and her children to dispose of manure with a wheel
barrow, shovels, rakes and forks. This requires a plan and
equipment, such as a tractor with loader, manure spreader and
disc. But it still doesn't speak to the urine contamination
or odor. See question 1B page 3 , ground water. Her answer
was no.
Air Climate
The odor, dust and fly problem is a subject in itself. . The
odor from 24 horses is bad enough, not to mention the flies.
Between the chicken ranch and the horse ranch we can't even
go out and sit on the porch or enjoy our back yard. we plan
to contact the health department very shortly regarding fly
control.
Noise
We didn't move to the country and expect a public address
system, horse shows and the other related noises other than
farming. Farming has enough noise of its own without adding
horse shows, carnivals and or rodeos.
Hazards
Since the site plan indicates there is parking for family
members only, where will all the clients and guests park?
Also, there was no mention of any emergency plan to deal with
that number of horses in case of a disaster. How will the
Sheriff propose to police the private road, county road and
state highway due to increased traffic congestion? Carrolton
Road is already heavily traveled and the addition of more
people with trucks and trailers could create additional
accidents. When we use the term private road, we are
referring to the access road on Ms. Powers Southern boundary.
The is our only entrance and since we have a legal easement
it can' t be blocked. Fire trucks and or medical vehicles
have to use this access road. This is why we pointed out
earlier about the fencing situation. Apparently her clients
would have to park inside the fence.
