C
II. Waste Diversion Analysis.-
A.
nalysis:A. Source reduction: An excellent example of this is the way we cooperatively
manage an equine product we all use. Instead of ten clients each buying a five
pound plastic tub of the product, I buy a 50 pound re-cycled cardboard container
and then share it with each client, thereby eliminating ten (10)plastic containers
being purchased and disposed of. When we are finished with the 50 lb. cardboard
container, we re-use it many times over, usually to store things in, until it is no
longer viable as a storage coitainer. When that time comes, we then put it with
the cardboard to be re-cycled yet again, or if that is not feasible, then it is put into
the same 2 yard dumpster bin.
ii
Tires are brought home, rather than left with the tire dealers to dispose of, and re-
used to protect our sprinklers, as feeders, as weights for tarps, &horse toys as
well as other uses. As a matter of fact, we have brought home from Swier Tire in
Ripon and Lawrence Tire in Escalon, huge tractor tires that would present a very
large disposal problem to the tire dealers and have re-used them as horse feeders
in our pastures. These tires were NOT our garbage, but products from
FARMING t6t the farmers did not re-use, but we gladly reuse them. This helps
us all.
One hundred percent of the manure is re-used and/or re-cycled and most of the
baling twine is diverted from disposal.
FI
B. Approximately 365 yards of manure (100%) is diverted. Approximately 25% of
household waste, 501/a of feed sacks, and 85% of baling twine is all diverted from
disposal.
3
tl
C. Re-cycling of twine, feed sacks, manure, cardboard has been discussed above,
Aluminum cans and plastic bottles are also re-cycled via central collection cans
that are then taken to local re-cycling centers,
We also take plastic 55 gallon barrels that are waste from the local corn
products company, among others, and re-use them as feeders, water
containers, weights for tarps, containers for grain, trash, & recycle items
as well as brackets and salt block holders. These are barrels that
they have a-problem disposing of, but we gladly take and re-use, thereby
helping the community and other businesses by re-using and re-cycling their
11
wastes, rather than it being put into the community disposal system.
D. Annual quantities vary, but percentages are discussed above. The total number of
feed sacks, for instance, are certainly less than 100 sacks annually, with at least
50% of those being diverted.
