CF4. The large conventional septic tank for human waste originating from the restrooms wit7theRestaurantwill increase hydraulic retention time particularly in the primary compartment o
tankand promote solids decomposition.
3. Effluent filters are to be installed on all tank outlets as described in the Phase II Report to
capture particulate matter and reduce Organic N (and therefore inorganic N), BOD and TSS
concentrations before flowing to the polishing tanks and ultimately to the disposal soils.
5. Two polishing tanks are to be installed in the treatment process to further retain and
decompose organic compounds before disposal of effluent to the receiving soils.
6. If it is subsequently determined that insufficient treatment by the tankage is occurring, the
ability exists to install an aerator in the second polishing tank, or a Package Treatment Plant in the
same footprint occupied by the polishing tanks.
7. As referenced in the Phase I Report, the effluent receiving soil characteristics are favorable for
the mitigation of nitrate loading by inhibiting nitrification and promoting denitrification.
SSS§ 7.0, NLS§ 5.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The proposed primary treatment of wastewater influent originating from all three sources
(Restaurant kitchen, Restaurant restrooms and ARCO restrooms/drains) is based upon passive,
non-mechanical treatment technology that has been used highly successfully for well over a
century, and that is the septic tank. Updated design and procedural changes that will be made
within the Restaurant, along with increased hydraulic retention times within the new tankage,
should lower the constituents of concern(COC), as referenced within the three Phased Reports.
If chemical analysis of the effluent subsequently reveals that the effluent does not meet generally
recognized standards, particularly with respect to nitrogen concentrations, an aeration system,
and/or a Package Treatment Plant may be easily installed within the treatment stream.
OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE
1. The grease interceptor tanks must be periodically pumped which is required with these types of
tanks. The pump-out time interval is presently unknown. After the system becomes completely
operational, the tanks should be monitored on a monthly basis to observe O+G build-up. After
several months of operation and observations, it is anticipated the grease interceptor tanks will
have to be pumped approximately every four months, or 3x/yr.
2. The Restaurant and ARCO Station conventional septic tanks should be inspected initially
every four months, or at the time of grease tank pump-outs. After one year of full-time operation,
these tanks should be inspected at least Ix/yr.
Page 8 of I 1
Chesney Consulting
