Because of the.potential high water table, the septic tank should be-installed as high in elevation as
possible: If groundwater.is encountered during tank emplacement, straps, deadmen, or some other
restraining method must be used to counteract buoyancy. Only.one-third of the septage should ever
be pumped out,.or if pumped out completely, the tank should be immediately refilled with water.
Secondly, the influent lin.e.-coming=from the Mosque must also be as high in elevation as possible.
The line should come through the footing of the building. The contractor, plumber and septic
system installer all must be made aware of this.
MONITORING
To check for standing effluent at the soil-effluent interface, two four-inch O.D. FVC tee's should be
placed at the interface at each end of the filter bed and extend through the rock and up through the
soil surface (See AppendiX:A)s A threaded cap should be used to cover the tube.
If it appears that the soils cannot manage the effluent flows; the 100%reserve area must be
activated. Consideration must be given to changing disposal methods within the reserve area, such
as pressurizing the effluent for complete and equal distribution as high in elevation as possible.
A water meter should be installed on the service line entering the Mosque to monitor and ensure
water usage is not excessive.° Restricting water use also includes checking for water leaks in toilets,
dripping faucets, etc. on a_regular monthly basis.
Given that the blackwater wastes inflowing into the septic_tank are projected to be a very small
volume, it is anticipated to have:the'tank pumped every five years, or pump-out based upon
monitoring the scum and sludge thicknesses by a septic contractor after two years of operation.
MAINTENANCE
A maintenance program should be established-for the entire wastewater disposal system. As
referenced, predicting septic tank pump-out intervals is impossible due to the number of unknowns.
These unknowns lead to changes in the quantity; quality and operational parameters of the proposed
wastewater disposal system.
Sprinkler irrigation over the disposal area must be carefully considered so as to not inundate this
area. During the spring and summer months,,irrigation should be done intermittently during the
day and/or evening hours. For example, the sprinklers could run for five minutes, six times per
day. Irrigation during the wintertime should be suspended. Run times and number of daily
irrigations should be determined by the landscape contractor.
Another source of nitrate loading can be from the lawn or other landscape-type plants that may be
planted over the disposal area. It is recommended not to use any nitrogen fertilizer in these areas.
If it is deemed necessary to use them, "snow release"nitrogen fertilizers should be used on the.
lawns and/or landscaping to reduce nitrate loading from these areas.
17
Chesney Consulting
