reduce potential odor in the incoming material. The stabilized material may also be blended
and processed to produce final products.
Stockpiling of finished compost material on-site may be required for further curing and to
accommodate fluxuations in the market due to seasonal weather conditions and agricultural
needs. Curing provides a more mature product for applications requiring a less active material.
Along with the procedures listed to control odors, additional steps eliminate: stale grass loads,
ponding water around composting areas, covering of processed and unprocessed materials.
Personnel Training
All site personnel will be given specific training on the GIMP protocol by the site manager.
Additionally, there will be a site meeting each month where the site manager will review the
process and go over any issues that have arisen at the site.
Contingencies
The Valley Organics composting facility operates under a comprehensive fire protection plan
reviewed by the Lathrop-Manteca fire department. This plan include site management issues,
and protocol to follow in the event of a fire on the site.
Valley Organics will have back up plans in the event of a power outage or equipment
breakdown that would not allow full operation ofithe facility. This protocol includes renting
equipment and bringing water on site if it occurs for more than 24 hours. Material will be
completely covered with a tarp if it is not able to be incorporated in a timely manner, within
three days of receipt.
OIMP Review
This OIMP will be maintained on-site and revised as necessary to reflect any changes in the
design or operation of this site.
The GIMP will be revised to reflect any changes and will be provided to the LEA within 30 days
of the changes. The GIMP will be reviewed once yearly on the anniversary of the approval and
any necessary changes or updates will be made at that time.
5
