Geo(ogicaC7ectiitics Znc. Page 10
City of Escalon
Project No. 750.3 a
February 26,2001
5.2 Monitoring and Laboratory Analysis
Monitoring during the remedial process will satisfy permit conditions and provide valuable
information needed to optimize the vapor extraction system during the remedial process.
Measuring extracted soil vapor.for volatile organic compounds by field instruments and
laboratory analysis is useful in determining hydrocarbon concentrations remaining in the
L
treatment areas and determining when alternative treatment technologies may be
appropriate. Quarterly testing of groundwater by laboratory analysis will also provide
useful information to complement the vapor influent data.
t
Lr 5.2.1 Groundwater Monitoring
Monthly Groundwater Elevation Measurements
The groundwater elevations in all of the monitoring wells will be measured once a month
until a complete annual cycle has been obtained. Thereafter, the groundwater elevation
L measurements will be collected during quarterly groundwater monitoring. This information
will help to evaluate the effect of groundwater mounding in response to vacuum extraction
and possible groundwater level changes as influenced by pumping of City wells in the area.
Quarterly Chemical Testing
The groundwater sample analysis protocol outlined in the work plan for Additional Site
Characterization dated June 29, 2000 will be used during this remedial project.
5.2.2 Soil Vapor Influent and Emission Monitoring
LIZ)
Weekly Monitoring
Vapor influent and air emissions will. adhere to the AtoC permit and should be monitored
weekly for the first month and twice a month thereafter for the duration of the remedial
project using field instrumentation - PID or FID. The resulting data will be used to optimize
r the.-extraction process and to estimate rates of contaminant removal.
L Monthly Testing
Influent vapor analyses from each vapor extraction well$ shall be accomplished monthly.
The resulting data will be used to optimize the extraction process and to estimate rates of
contaminant removal.
L Field Monitoring
The proposed monitoring schedule is as follows:
1 • Weekly for the first month with monitoring of the influent and effluent by a hand held
;Organic Vapor Meter(OVM) & samples for laboratory analysis.
• After the first month, monitoring of influent and effluent by a field portable OVM on a
`twice-monthly basis andLmonthly for laboratory nalvsis. )
• The samples collected from the influent and effluent ports will be submitted to the
.laboratory for analysis.
Note: This monitoring schedule may be adjusted according to requirements of the
SJVUAPCD permit.
fi
