A total of nine(9) septic
permits were reviewed. Four(4)of the nine (9)reviewed permits were for systems
installed along Grooms Road and the remaining five(5)were for systems installed along
Henry Road.
Two(2)of the four(4)permits reviewed along Grooms Road were for installing
leach fields consisting of either two (2)or three(3) leach lines varying in length from
seventy(70)to ninety(90)feet long. The remaining two(2)permits were for installing
leach lines varying from forty(40)to ninety(90) feet long with either 4'x 8'x10' or
4'x10'xl2' sumps at their ends.
The four(4)Grooms Road permits listed three types of soils. The soil types listed
were sand/sandy loam, sandy loam and clay loam. One permit did not list a soil type.
Two(2)of the five(5)permits reviewed along Henry Road were for installing
leach fields consisting either two(2)or three (3) leech lines varying from seventy(70)to
eighty(80) feet long. The remaining three(3) permits reviewed consisted of one(1) or
two(2)leach lines varying from 40' to 127' long with sumps varying from 2'x10'xl5',
4'x8'xl0', 4'x 10'x 12', and 4'x 10'x15' at their ends.
The five(5)Henry Road permits listed three(3)types of soils. The soil types listed
were sand, clay loam and hardpan.
No permits were noted for repairing any of the facilities subsequent to their
installation. From the historical septic records there is no indication of septic
contamination problems.
Soil Character: The University of California publication entitled"Soils of San Joaquin
County, California", by Walter W. Weir, dated June 1952, identifies the soil on the subject
property to be mainly Hanford Sandy Loam with some Madera Sandy Loam.
HANFORD SANDY LOAM
Hanford Soils are recent alluvial deposits from grinitic and similar quartz bearing
miscellaneous rock sources. They are developed under medium to low rainfall, which
occurs during mild winters followed by long dry summers. They are neutral to slightly
basic in reaction and are medium to fine textured. They are similar to Grangeville soils
except that they are less compact in the upper topsoil and have better drainage.
The surface soil of Hanford Sandy Loam is brown to light brown, open and
permeable. The surface soil contains transparent isinglass. It can be readily worked into a
seedbed; drainage is good and the reaction is about neutral.
Gene Benedix, 30407 Grooms Road,Oakdale CA 95361 3
