SUBJECT PROPERTY RECONNAISSANCE
\A site reconnaissance of the subject property was conducted by Suzanne Wells Henderson,
Environmental Specialist, of AGE on 30 August 2005, accompanied on the property by Mr. David
,., Gartiaand his brother. It was a clear day with a slight breeze. The subject property is depicted in
Figure 2; photographs of the subject property are provided in Appendix-A.
• The subject property was located at the northwest corner of the intersection of Horner and
South Adelbert Avenues.
• Land use of the surrounding properties was generally long-term residential; available
historical resources from at least 1910 show the property as residential land.
• At the time of the site visit, the subject property included one approximately 1,064-square-
foot residence with a two-car garage located on the west side of the property. The remainder
of the property was an open, fenced yard with one steel storage container and one tin storage
shed along the northern boundary. There were at least four areas with general storage of
residential and construction materials and non-operable vehicles or vehicle shells. The
property had many large trees.
• AGE inspected the soil underlying the miscellaneous storage areas and noted obvious soil
staining or foul odors.
• AGE inspected the fill dirt and noted,no obvious soil staining or foul odors.
• AGE did not inspect the interior of the steel-container according to the property owner, the
container was used for residential-use items only. AGE did not inspect the interior of the
residence; the garage inspection noted only normal residential use.
• The tin shed storage included a small amount of residential-sized containers of herbicides,
paint and cleaners. The floor of the shed was covered with a plastic •_AGE did not move
materials to inspect beneath the tarp, but no obvie s or o ors were noted. The herbicide
noted was:
ROUteNDUP (glyphosate): This compound in toxicity class H and must carry the label
WARNING.Glyphosate is a broad-spectrum,nonselective systemic herbicide used for control
of annual and perennial plants including grasses; it is an acid normally used as a salt.
Glyphosate is nontoxic to test animals by oral and dermal routes of exposure but may have
some inhalation toxicity. There are no suspected teratogenic, carcinogenic or mutagenic
effects.
`Qlyphosat moderately persistent in soil, with an estimated average half-life of 47 days.
EVen4heugh it is highly soluble in water, field and laboratory studies show it does not leach
appreciably, and has low potential for runoff(except as adsorbed to colloidal matter); one
Advanced GeoEnvironmentel,Inc.
