forth by regulatory agencies.
Description of Environmental Setting
The Traina project site is located in an area generally characterized by general
industrial, agricultural use and mining operations. The land is presently in agricultural
production as an apricot orchard. The property is designated as open space/resource
conservation (OS/RC) by the San Joaquin County General Plan and is zoned AG-40.
The vested Tracy Rock Plant is located immediately to the west of the site and is
acknowledged by the State with a MRZ designation. The adjacent land uses to the site
include aggregate mining to the north, aggregate mining and processing to the west,
orchard to the east, and row crops to the south. Two existing residences are located on
the agricultural property to the south. Also located in the vicinity is the Tracy Materials
Recovery and Transfer Facility, the Tracy Municipal Airport, Triple E Produce and
Esfresh packing plants, Ameron Pipe, the Banta Carbona Irrigation District office, and
RoLab Rubber company.
Geology
The project site is located at the western margin of the Great Valley physiographic
province, at the eastern flank of the Diablo Range, just south of Tracy. The valley is
filled with Tertiary and Quaternary age clastic sediments to depths of greater than
20,000 feet. Streams flowing northeastward from the Diablo Range have developed a
succession of lobate-shaped alluvial fans at the base of the mountains. Sediments
deposited as recent alluvial fans at the mouth of Corral Hollow Creek, Lone Tree Creek,
Hospital Creek, and others are made up of the San Luis Ranch Alluvium and the Los
Banos Alluvium, which contain reworked sediments derived from older alluvial fan
deposits. The alluvial fans overlie a thick sequence of clastic sediments of the Pliocene
and Pleistocene age Tulare Formation. A thin veneer of Holocene-aged Patterson
Alluvium overlies these alluvial fans.
The project site lies within alluvial fan deposits of Corral Hollow Creek in an area
commonly known for sand and gravel deposits. In general, the subsurface conditions
can be characterized as interstratified sands, clays and gravels. The drilling results
3
