located in this area; both are vacant and in disrepair. A domestic well and an unpainted <br /> wooden shed are located to the east of the houses.. To the east of the wooden house <br /> was a depression in the soil from which an old bedspring could be seen protruding; Mr. <br /> Henry indicated that no buried debris is present at this location. Old cattle pens are <br /> present to the southeast of the houses. <br /> Two pole-mounted transformers were observed near the northeast comer of the Site. <br /> One pole-mounted transformer was observed near the horses. All three transformers <br /> appeared clean but were not labeled PCB-free. <br /> The adjacent properties are agricultural and grazing land with rural residences. <br /> 5.0 INTERVIEWS <br /> 5.1 Interview with PropeMj Owners �J <br /> Phil Henry was interviewed by telephone on October 13, 2010. At this time, he <br /> indicated that the Site has been in his family since 1959. He and his brother acquired <br /> title to the propeears ago. Mr. Henry indicated that the Site has been <br /> used primarily asrazing Iand uring his family's ownership. The flat area on the east <br /> side of the Site has een planted with alfalfa, asparagus, and onions. The southern (2- J <br /> .portion of the property was formerly leased to a nearby gravel mine. Mine tailings were <br /> extracted from the Site, leaving the ponds along the southern property line; this activity <br /> was completed by 1970. <br /> Mr. Henry indicated that the stone house on the Site is approximately 140 years old. It <br /> has not been lived in for approximately three years. The other structures are also very <br /> old and predate his family's ownership of the :property; the wooden house has never <br /> been lived in since 1959. He stated that a barn and equipment shed, formerly on the <br /> Site, have since fallen into disrepair and been removed. Mr. Henry stated that the <br /> foundation present near the southwest corner of the Site may have been a hotel or <br /> commercial building that served the original Highway 88; only the foundation remained <br /> in 1959. <br /> The Site is currently leased to two people, Mr. Henry stated. Max Biglieri leases the <br /> western portion of the Site for irrigated crops (most recently onions), and Frank Costa <br /> leases the remainder for cattle grazing. <br /> Mr. Henry was not aware of any fuel tanks, chemical -storage, automotive maintenance <br /> activities, dumping, trash burial, -or other environmental issues on the Site or in the <br /> vicinity. <br /> Page 4 <br /> iL4GE7 022 9 <br />
