Escalon Subdivision
Page 2
L May 30,2000
The site is located in Seismic Zone 3' and all structures should be designed accordingly.
L There are no known faults that cross the site. The two closest active faults to the site are the Foothills
Fault System located 20 miles east-northeast and the Great Valley Fault Zone located 24 miles west-
southwest.','southwest',' Due to the relative proximity of these faults to the site there is a reasonable possibility
that the site will be subjected to a moderate amount of shaking from a seismic event during the life
of any structures. The California Division of Mines and Geology assigns a probabilistic (10%
Lprobability of exceeding that motion in a 50 year period) peak horizontal ground acceleration for
surface soil at the subject site of 0.1 to 0.2g.' A detailed analysis of earthquake induced liquefaction
for the proposed site was outside the scope of our investigation, however the expected hazard is most
L likely low due to the deep ground water, cohesive soils, and relatively lower earthquake induced
ground motion for the area(0.1 to 0.2g).
LFollowing is a table of the 1997 Uniform Building Code Soil Parameters'which may be used
ii for design of structures at the subject site:
1997 UNIFORM BUILDING CODE SOIL DESIGN PARAMETERS
Seismic Zone,Z 3
1 L Soil Type,S Sd
Seismic Source Type B
Seismic Co-efficient,Ca 0.36
L Seismic Co-efficient,Cv 0.54
Distance to Foothill Fault Zone Source: 32 kilometers,20 miles
Distance to Great Valley Fault Source: 39 kilometers,24 miles
L
The general topography of the site and surrounding area is relatively flat. At the time of our
investigation, the site consisted of open agricultural fields with one house and barn.We understand
that the field has undergone deep ripping (6 feet) of hardpan in two directions within the past 25
Lyears.
' Uniform Building Code, 1997 Edition,International Conference of Building Officials,Whittier,CA.
L
' Blake,T.F., 1998a,A computer program for the probabilistic estimation of peak acceleration and utriform
hazard spectra using 3-D faults as earthquake sources, IBM-PC and compatibles version, user's manual.
