28 May 2003 <br /> AGE-NC Project No. 03-1028 <br /> Page 5 of 23 <br /> The history ofthe subject site from as early as the 1860s to present was researched by reviewing historical <br /> aerial photographs, topographic maps, directory information, fire department, oil and gas maps and <br /> personal interviews. <br /> The subject property appears to have been utilized for agricultural purposes from the 1860s to present; <br /> crops grown on the property included row crops,tomatoes,beets,com and wheat.The southern portion <br /> of Parcel 01 containing the Sperry Ranch complex has been utilized for residential use and as a stable <br /> with an arena and pasture. According to Ms. Susan Gilbeau,a member of the Sperry family,the ranch <br /> complex was constructed from 1862 through the early 1980s and is occupied by the family and operated <br /> as a stable. AGE was informed that the Sperry Ranch complex will remain under Sperry family <br /> ownership. <br /> 3.1. REVIEW OF AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHS <br /> Developmental history of the subject property and surrounding areas was researched using aerial Z <br /> photographs.Four aerial photographs,dated 1957, 1970, 1982 and 1993 were provided by EDR and one <br /> G1obeExplorefrm aerial photograph, dated 2001, was reviewed on the MapQuest (Globe Explorer) <br /> internet site http://www.mo uesq t•com). A brief description of the aerial photographs are as follows: <br /> 1957(Flyer=Cartwright, Scale=5559 -EDR collection <br /> The subject property appears utilized for agricultural purposes;a railroad right-of-way extends along the <br /> western boundary. The photograph does not include the southernmost portion of Parcel 01. The <br /> surrounding properties appear agricultural to the northwest,north and northeast and mixed agricultural <br /> and residential to the southwest, south and southeast. <br /> 1970(Flyer=Cartwright, Scale=6669 -EDR collection <br /> 1982 (Flyer=Western State, Scale=6909 -EDR collection <br /> (77tis is a color photograph with poor resolution; details are not readily discernable) <br /> The subject property appears utilized for agricultural purposes;a railroad right-of-way extends along the <br /> western boundary and a farm complex is visible on the southernmost portion of Parcel 01,adjacent to a <br /> river.
