This development is in the Linden Elementary, Waterloo
School, and Linden High School attendance area, and will severely impact
these already overcrowded schools. For the sake of the children, we
must reach agreement concerning school mitigation for this proposed
addition of two homes, and the subsequent increase in student
enrollment.
Recent development activity has resulted in an experienced student
population increase of more than one child for each additional home
constructed. Based upon this historical study, the District position is
that we must receive full mitigation, which has been established at
$17,099. This position was overwhelmingly supported by the community
at several Public Meetings convened by the Board of Trustees, Linden
Unified School District.
As you proceed with discussions with the County concerning this new
development project, it is important for all parties to be aware that the
District is without financial means to address the future impact from the
project. While schools are overcrowded at various grade levels, the
District currently falls below the eligibility requirements to receive State
funding for school construction or to have the authority to levy higher
developer fees.
