Deep Percolation Test Hole, PBS was selected to be the Soil Profile Test Hole in
this study.
The San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water Conservation Map entitled
"Lines of Equal Depth To Water Wells", dated Spring 1999, shows the groundwater table
to be at least fifty(50) feet below the ground surface.
On the "Shallow Field Percolation Data Sheet"included in this report I have
noted the soil encountered to be a gray clay to maximum depth of 35"and the next layer
below the gray clay for an additional maximum depth below the ground surface of
36-314"to be either gray clay sprinkled with reddish brown silty clay or just reddish
brown silty clay.
On the "Deep Field Percolation Data Sheet" included in this report I have noted
the soil encountered to be gray clay to a depth of five (5) feet below the ground surface,
dense reddish brown clay from a depth five (5) feet to a depth of eleven(11) feet, reddish
brown sandy clay from a depth of eleven(11)feet to a depth of fourteen 14' feet, and
alternating layers of reddish brown silty clay and reddish brown sandy clay from fourteen
(14)feet to a maximum depth of twenty-three (23) feet below the ground surface.
Refer also to the attached Masellis Drilling, Inc, "Geologic Log", dated July 25,
2001.
The University of California publication entitled"Soils of San Joaquin County,
California", by Walter W. Weir, dated June 1952, refers to the soil type on this subject
property as being"Capay Clay Loam Basins". This is a medium textured soil having
hardpan or hardpan-like substratum and is dark gray brown in color at both the surface
and subsurface levels. Permeability is imperfect at both surface and subsurface depths.
The Storie Index for the soil is listed at 58 and the soil has a no erosion rating. The soil
has a good agricultural product production rating.
The University of California publication entitled"Soils of San Joaquin County,
California,United States Department of Agricultural Soil Conservation Service", issued
October 1992, lists the soil type on the subject property as "Jacktone Clay", level to 2%
slope.
The color variations at various levels below the ground surface are noted as
follows: Typically the surface layer is a very dark gray and dark gray clay about 22"
thick. The upper 12' of the subsurface is dark gray clay and light gray clay loam. The
next three (3) inches is a light gray strongly cemented to indurate hard pan. The next 9"
is yellowish brown loam. The lower part to a depth of 60 inches is a yellowish-brown,
weakly cemented hardpan.
The percent of clay and permeability at various levels below the ground surface
are listed as follows:
Earl Sellers, 10979 North Micke Grove Road,Lodi, California 95240;(209)478-5760,(209)610-5602
A
