` February 25, 2002
Job Number:LGOl-397
Page 13
The waste water is ultimately disposed of by percolation through the pond bottom and
side walls, landscape irrigation, and/or orchard irrigation. The waste water in the pond is used
for irrigation on the Chinchiolo Fruit Company site, the Sierra Fruit Packing facility, and/or the
orchards west and north of the fruit packing plants.
An assumption was made that 20%of the total process waste water generated by both
facilities may result in deep percolation below the Chinchiolo Fruit Company property. This
assumption is a rough estimate or starting point to determine whether the effect of combining
. process waste with septic waste water has a relative"beneficial'or"negative"effect.
The greatest quantities of process water is developed/disposed during the warm summer
months where evapotranspiration is the highest. The assumption of 20%deep percolation of
process waste water results in a flow of 5,509,487 gallons/year(0.2 x 27,547,434 gallons/year=
5,509,487). A flow of 5,509,487 gallons/year is equivalent to 20,853,408 liters/year.
The water quality of the process waste water is tested regularly for TKN,pH,and specific
conductance. The TKN test measures the amount of nitrogen in ammonia and organic nitrogen
` in the waste water. The samples are collected by Precision Analytical, Stockton CA. We
understand that water quality monitoring of the pond water was required by the California
Regional Water Quality Control Board. The water quality reports examined were for the period
during cherry production(May 9 to July 10, 2001). The water quality reports were obtained
from Chinchiolo Fruit Company. The following table presents a summary of the water quality
reports for this period:
Table 8.
Water quality of waste water during cherry production 2001.
Date TKN as Nitrogen pH Specific Conductance umho/cm
May 9,2001 1.1 7.71 462
May 18,2001 5 6.99 411
May 29,2001 2.17 7.13 680
June 5,2001 28.5 6.82 510
June 12,2001 3.2 7.31 933
June 21,2001 3.3 7.75 466
July 10,2001 3.7 8.97 / 400
Average TKN-N: 6.71mg/L-N TK
*J -L
