Lange Property Page 10 of 13
Our Project Number: LES08004
February 8, 2008
V/ .4 Past Off-Site Sources of Contamination
No above- or below-ground off-site potential or known sources of contamination were identified
from past uses of the surrounding properties, except for the following:
• Surrounding properties have been used for agriculture in the past; agricultural chemicals
i may have been applied to these properties.
3.5 Current Off-Site Sources of Contamination
No above- or below-ground off-site potential or known sources of contamination were identified
' from current uses of the surrounding properties, except for the following:
• Surrounding properties are used for agriculture; agricultural chemicals may be applied to
these properties.
4.0 EVALUATION OF IDENTIFIED CONTAMINATION SOURCES
I
Agricultural chemical residues containing fenbutatin-oxide, fenpropathrin, and paraquat
dichloride, may remain on the property. These chemicals are persistent or have been identified
I as toxic to aquatic organisms or humans. No evidence was found, however, to indicate that the
I chemicals were applied inappropriately.
The potential exists of possible waterway contamination, given the proximity of Jahant Slough
to the surrounding agricultural land and the reported application of agricultural chemicals toxic
to aquatic life. However, no evidence was observed to indicate that the waterways are
contaminants to aquatic organisms.
Waterways such as Jahant Slough, can be used for indiscriminate disposal of potentially
hazardous materials and can serve as contaminant pathways to surrounding property.
If water wells are not properly operated and maintained, they can serve as contamination
conduits to groundwater. Septic systems may be used for inappropriate disposal of hazardous
substances. In this case, there is no evidence to suggest that wells or septic systems may be
contaminant pathways on the subject property or vicinity.
The waste water discharge ponds and land application area can serve as contaminant pathways
into the soil and surrounding land if not maintained. In this case there are three monitoring
wells in place which are being reported to the California Regional Water Quality Control
Board(CRWQB) Central Valley Region, Order No. R5-2006-0088.
5.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Given the historical uses . of agricultural chemicals on the subject property, meaningful
conclusions regarding the presence or extent of such material cannot be determined without
902 Industrial Way-Lodi,CA 95240-209.367.3701 -Fax 209.369.4228 02008 Neil 0.Anderson&Associates,Inc.
