Trinkle Property Page 5 of 9
Our Project Number: E07143A
September 12, 2007
—
office found records for the subject property under the name of Thomsen Farms (Appendix F).
Use permits were found for 2002, 2005 and 2006.
—
The following agricultural chemical use reports were provided by Ms. Gallego:
Product Name Active Ingredient 02 05 06
Direx 4L Diuron X
Govern 4E Chlorpyrifos X
Lannate 905P Insecticide Methom I X
Lock-on Chlorpyrifos X X X
Vel ar L Herbicide Hexazinone X
Warrior T Lambda-cyhalothrin X X
According to Ms. Gallego, when a chemical for which a permit has been issued is applied to a
field, the use report must be filed with the Agricultural Commissioner. The use reports do not
include chemicals for which a permit is not required?
The EPA's Restricted Use Products (RUP) Report10 was searched for the chemicals reportedly
applied to the subject property. Based on this source, it appears that, of the agricultural
chemicals reportedly applied to the subject property, only those containing methomyl,
chlorpyrifos and lambda-cyhalothrin are RUPs. The U.C. Davis Extension Toxicology Network
(EXTOXNET) web site" wa Ited for additional information on these chemicals.
j 1
According to EXTOXNET, methomyl is a broad spectrum secticide c ssified as an RUP by the
EPA because of i high acute toxi ity to humans. Meth I is_ ly soluble in water, has a
soil half-life f 33 d ys, an n3o soii-particles erste. Consequently,
methomyl has a identified as otential groundwater contaminant.
According to EXTOXN , chlorpyrifos is toxicity class II - moderately toxic. The EPA has
r established a 24-hour ntry intery or crop areas treated with emulsifiable concentrate or
wettable powder formulations of chlorpyrifos unless workers wear protective clothing. Products
containing chlorpyrifos bear the Signal Word WARNING or CAUTION, depending on the toxicity
of the formulation.
According to EXTOXI T, lambda cyhalothrin " a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide and acaricide
used to control a wide ran"_pests. Jt-rs-`moderately toxic in the technical form, but may be-'
highly toxic via some routes in formulation. Lambda cyhalothrin is moderately persistent in the
soil environment, with a field half-life close to 30 days in most soils.
—
3.1.5 Water Supply and Sewage Disposal System
One septic system and on"ell are located on the subject property.
e Personal Communication, November 28, 2005.
i` 10 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency(EPA),June 2003, Restricted Use Products (RUP) Report.
" University of California, Davis, Extension Toxicology Network(EXTOXNET), http://extoxnet.orst.edu/ghindex.html
902 Industrial Way•Lodi,CA 95240•209.367.3701 •Fax 209.369.4228 02007 Neil O.Anderson&Associates,Inc.
