3. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
3.6.2 MINING OPERATIONS
PHASING
Mitring would be divided into nine phases beginning with Phase I. While mining Phase I,the
Phase IV area would he temporarily bermed to create a silt pond using Phase I and Phase IV
overburden. Once mining is completed in Phase I, it would be used for permanent silt _
containment and the silt temporarily contained in Phase IV would be pumped into the Phase I silt
pond. Mining would continue to Phase II,III,IV,and so on until all phases have been mined.
Once mining is completed in the Phase IV area, the pit would be used as a permanent silt pond —
along with the silt pond in the Phase I area. If additional silt storage is needed during the course
of mining, the Phase V area would be used as a silt pond. Phase IX will be mined once the
structures including the aggregate plant are demolished and removed. The material excavated
from Phase IX will be processed by a portable plant located on the capped settling pond in the
Phase IV area. Tables 3-1 and 3-2 describe the elements of the mine phases.
