U
The side slopes of the revegetated quarry would not be irrigated and would support winter
growth only. Side slope planting would be done between September 1 and October 15,
using the straw and seed incorporation method. A combination of bland boom (Bromos
molls), rose clover (Trifolium hordeum) and annual ryegrass (Locum multiflorum) at a rate '
of 100 lbs. per acre is proposed. Straw would be applied at a rate of 1,000 lbs. per acre. !
Fertilizer, seed, and straw would be incorporated into the soil with a standard cultivator
equipped embankment roller. No irrigation or pre-irrigation is required for germination.
Seed, straw, and fertilizer incorporation would be done in one application before the
winter rains begin.
No testare lots planned for this revegetation.p p The first phase of revegetation would serve
as a guide for future phases. The lead agency would be notified of any revisions to the
revegetation plan.
The bottom of the quarry floor would be planted in row crops with irrigation provided by the
well on the west side of the proponent. The quarry floor reclamation soil surface would be
graded to meet the requirements of the row crop planted (S=0.001 to 0.002).
Monitoring and Maintenance
Landscape areas would be monitored monthly by the proponent for timing of irrigation and
pest control. Irrigation frequency and duration would be revised as required for good plant
growth. Maintenance on the drip irrigation system would be as required to ensure healthy
plant growth. Dead or dying plants would be replaced yearly by the proponent.
Annual monitoring of the erosion control system on the quarry slopes would be made in
September of each year by the proponent. Areas of poor quality revegetation would be
reseeded and re-tested for soil nutrients, and any areas low in soil nutrients would be
fertilized and replanted. The proponent will also repair and reseed areas of erosion, as
necessary.
Monitoring and maintenance would continue for five years after all reclamation is
completed. The proponent would post a bond for five years in the amount to cover all
maintenance of the project site after reclamation is complete.
Public Safety
All fences, berms, and gates would remain in place after mining is completed. The finish
and interim slopes of the quarry would meet the engineering standards for slope stability
and would not present a danger to the public. The five foot landscaped berm would protect
the public from driving into the quarry from Koster Road.
Draft Environmental Impact Report 3-18 ER-96-3
