LK E/NFELDER
alar pre.a;ynrsmm;..
Housekeeping practices appeared improved from last site visit, particularly in
Lone Tree Creek which traverses the site.
• The last ESA was conducted in March of 2006 during early spring, apparently
following recent precipitation. Therefore, soil was observed wet, and ponding
of water was common at that time. This current update was done in July with
dry soil conditions. Soil staining is more distinct on dry soil than very damp to
wet soil. A significant amount of additional soil staining was observable in dirt
roadways and near fueling operations. Ponding of water was noted in the
corral areas of the dairy, but was otherwise absent where noted in the earlier
ESA.
• A wash-down pad and maintenance area were noted on the eastern end of
• the main dairy area.
• A large manure pile and manure drying area was noted by the southwest
corner of the main dairy area, which was not observed previously.
• A large poly tank estimated at 2,000 gallons labeled as urea ammonium
nitrate was noted in the central residential/farmhouse area on the northern
parcel. A small leak was noted from this tank.
• Soil pile locations in proximity to the dairy waste ponds were noted in different
areas. No hazardous materials or additional concerns, however, were noted.
• Four domestic wells were sampled on the northern parcel. Nitrate as N
values in groundwater samples from three of four wells were reported below
the applicable Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) of 10 milligrams/liter
(mg/1). The backup domestic well DW-4 located along the east central border
had Nitrate as N values of 13 mg/I, just exceeding the primary MCL noted.
DBCP was not detected in any of the four groundwater samples collected.
Kleinfelder's findings are discussed in Chapter 5 of this report.
