kn KLEINFELDER
_ should be aware that the former USTs may have leaked and become a source
for subsurface petroleum contamination. If further inquiry is desired, more
detailed information from people knowledgeable about the UST area is
recommended followed by soil sampling and analyses for petroleum
constituents.
4. Pole-mounted transformers were noted throughout the site. Blue non-PCB
stickers were noted on several of the pole-mounted transformers. No leaking or
soil stains were noted in association with the transformers and they do not
appear to pose an environmental concern.
5. A remnant burn area was noted in the north central portion of APN 205-100-17.
There did not appear to be any hazardous materials or debris within the burn
area. According to Mr. Woltjer brush and wood clippings area burn in this area. /
No hazardous materials or odors were associated with the burn area; based on
this information, it is not currently expected to have an adverse impact on the
site.
6. Two diesel AST's are located on the southeast border of the dairy. One is
located on an above ground cradle and one is located on wooden blocks on the
ground. Two mobile AST's are located south of the milk barn. There did not
appear to be any leaking, staining or stressed vegetation associated with the
tanks.
A Diesel AST in an above ground cradle was noted in the center of APN 205-
100-17. Three diesel AST's in above ground cradles are located north of the milk/
barn. Soil staining was noted at the base of the tanks.
An AST of disinfectant for the cow udders is located south of the dairy cows. The,
AST does not appear to pose an environmental concern to the site. i
Two AST's are located in the western portion of the dairy. According to Mr.
Dotinga, one tank was previously used to store molasses and the second tank is
a way tank containing a corn liquid product. Based on this information, these two
AST's do not appear to pose an environmental concern to the site.
i
A large AST is located in the open area between the barns and sheds in the "
southwestern portion of the site. According to Mr. Dotinga, the AST was a former
diesel fuel AST.
Kleinfelder recommends implementing secondary containment at all petroleum
ASTs or other chemical containers located at the site. Those ASTs with soil
staining and even those without observable stains can contribute to subsurface
petroleum contamination. Impacted soil should be removed and disposed of
according to federal, state and local laws and regulations.
