A majority of the
dairy area consists of corrals and dairy barns. Dairies can be a source of
nitrates, coliform bacteria and other waste constituents, which can migrate into
L soil and potentially groundwater. If the client desires, Kleinfelder can evaluate the
vertical migration of potential chemicals related to the dairy. Please note the
Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) has drafted general waste
L discharge requirements for dairy's, which is in draft form. Kleinfelder
recommends obtaining this document to be informed of upcoming regulations
L related to dairy farming. Irrigation of crops with dairy waste is an acceptable
practice, however, this management of waste often contributes to degradation of
groundwater. Nitrates and other potential contaminants are highly soluble and
can migrate past the root zone if irrigation practices are not managed well.
Kleinfelder recommends reviewing these practices with the intent to limit the
migration of onsite wastes beyond the root zone or into surface waters.
r
I
L 15.Seven residential structures are located in the western portion of APN 205-100-
18.
