Surface and Subsurface Contamination Report 1rrcon
10516 E. Peltier Road a Acampo, California
April 17, 2018 a Terracon Project No. NA177074
3.5 Current Off-Site Sources of Contamination
The following above- or below-ground off-site potential or known sources of contamination were
identified from current uses of the surrounding properties:
® Surrounding properties are used for agriculture; agricultural chemicals may be
applied to these properties.
4.0 EVALUATION OF IDENTIFIED CONTAMINATION SOURCES
Historical Dairy Operations — Historical dairy operations were reported on the site in the 1940
through 1960s. Dairies have the potential to cause increases of nitrate levels in soil and
groundwater.
Historical Agricultural Land Use — The site has been used for agricultural purposes from as
early as the 1930s through the present. Agricultural chemicals continue to be stored, mixed,
rinsed, and applied to the site. These chemicals may persist in surface soils however, no
evidence was found to indicate that the chemicals were mixed, rinsed, or applied
inappropriately.
Underground Storage Tank — The regulatory database identified a 500-gallon gasoline UST
was installed on the site in 1965. Based on interviews, the UST was removed in the 1970s to
1980s; however, UST removal records were not found in state and local agency records. Air
vents or indications of the presence of a UST were not observed near the identified location.
The reported UST represents an environmental concern.
Aboveground Storage Tank — One active 1,000-gallon diesel AST and one inactive 1,000-
gallon diesel AST were identified on the site. Staining and or evidence of release were not
observed near the ASTs. The ASTs are not located within a secondary containment area.
There a potential for the ASTs to have impacted the surface soil due to mishandling and poor
storage practices.
Diesel Release — Based on interviews and EHD records, contaminated soil from an
approximately 800-gallon diesel release was removed from the site under EHD supervision in
the year 2003. The EHD records noted, confirmation samples were collected; however,
laboratory results were not provided by the EHD. The regulatory database HAZNET listing,
reported approximately eight tons of waste identified as waste oil and mixed oil was disposed at
a recycler in the year 2003. Terracon presumes the HAZNET listing, is associated with the
2003 diesel release. Based on absence of analytical data for the confirmation samples, the
diesel release represents an environmental concern to the site at this time.
Equipment Maintenance Area — The area located south of Shop 1 is used as an equipment
maintenance area. Staining and or evidence of release was not observed on soil in the area.
Responsive ■ Resourceful ■ Reliable 11
